COVID-19 Antibody Test

We offer COVID-19 antibody test.

The MHRA-approved test has a 98.69% detection rate for antibodies. You’ll receive the test in our pharmacy store and get your results in ten minutes.

Please call to arrange an appointment.

If you think you have had COVID please wait 21 days after recovery before you take the test or 28 days if you have had contact with someone who has COVID symptoms.

If you are currently experiencing any of the following symptoms, do not come into the pharmacy:

– high temperature
– new, continuous cough
– loss or change to your sense of smell or taste

If you have one or more of these symptoms, you need to stay at home. If your symptoms do not improve, contact NHS 111 for more information on what to do.

What does the test look for?

The antibody test is looking for your body’s response to an infection. For this test, it’s the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes COVID-19.

Your body’s immune response goes through several stages when you’re fighting an infection. This includes short-term responses to kill the invading pathogen plus long term responses that may help protect you from future infections.

The test detects two of these antibodies called IgM and IgG antibodies. In general, IgM antibodies appear a week after infection, and IgG antibodies appear two weeks after infection. Because these antibodies are only produced several weeks after an infection, it’s important that you wait before having the test.

How reliable is the test?

The test kit we use is very reliable. All blood tests have the possibility of false-positive and negatives. This is the same as the test that the NHS uses on patients in the hospital.

  • A false-positive result means the test has incorrectly detected the antibodies.
  • A false-negative means the kit has failed to detect the antibodies that are present in your blood.

The chances of a false-negative or false-positive result are very unlikely. However, the main reason for false results is taking the test too soon after possible infection.

This is why you need to wait for at least 21 days after recovering from a possible infection before taking the test. Or wait 28 days after being in contact with someone who has COVID-19.

If you would like to take the COVID-19 antibody test, please contact us as soon as possible while our stocks last.
